Psalm 37:3-7 (NASB), Romans 12:2 (NASB), Colossians 3:2 (NASB)
(Ps37) What comes to mind when you think of delights? Perhaps it’s Narnia & the Evil Queen who offers Turkish delight in exchange for so called ‘loyalty’?
What are you delighting in today? Do you look at people around you and see how they prosper and then look at yourself and say “it’s not fair!”?
Consider v. 1ff “do not fret because of evildoers.. Or be envious…” what are they delighting in? Is it not what we delight in that gives us our desires and motivations? God’s word often tells us to, “set our minds on the things of Christ” (col. 3:2) and Paul writes, “do not conform to the pattern of this world” (ro. 12:2). Why is this so important? Is it perhaps because what we set our minds too or put our energy to is where we will get our delight?
We all have desires and dreams, yet when we submit them to the worlds way we’ll probably get frustrated. It’ll feel impossible, futile or even empty! (v2) without God all the best laid plans will eventually fade away!
Instead;
1/ trust & do good – lifestyle that brings joy to Father God (v3)
2/ dwell – live in the contentment of where you are, opposite of fretting)
3/ enjoy – the security, provision of where you’re at now!
4/ take delight in the Lord and he will give you desires of your heart! (v4)
5/ submit your life to his ways (v5)
6/ be still & wait – patience! (v7)
And there’s a promise: you will shine! you will succeed in his time! (v6)
Remember the opposite of Fretting! Is to trust!
