If you think you’re big – think again!

(Psalm 52:1, 5-9; Ephesians 6:12; James 3:10)

Why is it that so often it seems that the people that have the biggest mouths are the ones that speak against God? It often seems like these people are the ones that get heard in the media too!?!

Where are God’s people declaring the best way ever only found in knowing the living God!?!

Consider the contrasts here:

“You think you’re such a big strong man” (v1) and “Look at this fellow, he didn’t depend on God for safety” (v7)
Relying on his own words, spreading malice and lies to tear down others so he himself can be built up! Sound familliar?

I’m sure we’ve all been in situations where are loan voice seems so small where we’ve experienced a kinda fear that if we speak out we will get shot down!

That is not the way it is supposed to be! James talks about not letting malice, slander and Godly talk come out of the same mouth (James 3v10) it’s just not right!!

Contrast this to (v5-9);
1. Observe and learn to live right. Tearing others down gets you know where alienates you from God himself and people! (v5-6)
2. Trust in God, be faithful to what you know is right in your heart! Live differently. Continually giving thanks to what God is doing in your life (v9). Your hope is in a safe place and make every effort to live at peace with God’s people that your life may be a witness to the ‘Strong Man’!

As you live differently, your very life will heap burning coals on the strong man – who is that in reality? Ephesians is clear for we dont fight against flesh and blood but against the forces of evil in the heavenly realms! (Eph. 6:12). Therefore, live differently and in doing so you remind Satan of his future (v4&5) consider when you come across people that seem to be against God then pray that the strong man is bound up so that they me see clearly the reality of real hope that comes from depending on God! (v7)
