Psalm 99:1 (NLT), Psalm 99:2 (NLT), Psalm 99:3 (NLT), Psalm 99:5 (NLT), Psalm 99:9 (NLT), 1 Peter 2:9 (NLT)
Royalty sets the tone of a nation! Hey church we are royalty so how are we setting the tone? As I reflect on this psalm today I see something of a foundation for how God’s people should live as a His chosen people, a royal priesthood and a holy nation – Church set the tone!
- Royalty – Majesty
v1 – in the context of where the LORD (Yaweh, the I AM} is – his rightful place enthroned in the majesty of heaven! He is righfully King!
and;
v2 – enthroned in the live, and lives of His people (Jerusalem, or Zion as it is in Hebrew) a picture to me that conjures up The LORD who is king both in heaven and enthroned amongst His people on earth!
- Community of God’s people – his chosen people, a holy nation…
What is the response of the community of God’s people? Today we see His nation is His Church, the bride groom of Christ! (Royal Priesthood, a holy nation… 1 Peter 2:9)
Firstly, (v3) Confess; with praise! not just empty meaningless praise but that which acknowledges (even confesses or admitts) who God is – inspiring, awesome, with reverence as we come before a holy God!
Secondly, (v5) humble yourself – “At his footstall” or “bow low” is a picture of recognising our own position before the Yaweh God and coming to that special place (v9) his holy mountain – get in His presence. There’s a sweet aroma there, a reverence, a joy, a peace!
In His presence (v6-8) watch the example of Moses, Aaron and Samuel and the nation of Israel –
Call on His name
Cry for help
He answered, he spoke!
(v7) gave the Torah to show people how to live. Jesus lived the Torah as an example to us, he writes this way on our hearts as we come to Christ!
The Character of God’s purposes lived out in his community – his chosen people, royal priesthood and a holy nation, is to:
love justice
establish fairness
act justly…
Is that not what Yaweh writes on our hearts through Christ Jesus our Lord?

How might you live a kingdom life today? Do you see your life in the context with God on the throne? How does that set the tone today for how you live His kingdom life?
How might you set the tone today? Choose today to live out of His presence:
– confess who he is
– praise and thanksiving
– find that special place with him today in worship
