‘For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. ‘
Hebrews 12:3
Perhaps right now you’re wondering, “Why is life so hard?” Sometimes I hear people perceive the Christian gospel to be that of, “When you come to Jesus all your problems will disappear!” While in reality this is so often not the case.
So then, how can we live in joy through times of weariness and where our hearts feel dispondant?
Hebrews 12:1-3 gives us some keys–
- Learn from those who have gone before. (v1) There are many Christian hero’s who have lived in times past that have endured and come through it. I recommend the Christian Hero series from YWAM Publishing to read stories about Christians lived before.
- Run the race free from things that snare and trip us up. Stuff does happen to drag us down, knock us out but as in v1, “..let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
- Fix our eyes on Jesus (v2) He endured the cross because His eye was on the prize of winning people into relationship with God! When trouble comes, when sin tries to snare and trip us up, look to Jesus. Knowing he endured pain of the cross for us to know life!
Stuff happens! Things we don’t understand. Coming to Jesus never said your problems will disappear, but know this! When stuff happens, bad stuff, I rejoice because I know I can look to Jesus and He will help me through it. To help me endure.
Today, help me not to grow weary or loose heart, but keep running the race, with my head held high looking to Jesus that I may know He is with me in my trials so that I do not loose heart.
Yes, I can agree ’cause Jesus is both the author and the finnisher of our faith. He will not let us experience what we cannot endure. In Deut31v6, and Heb 13v5 it states: “I will never let you go, nor will I by any means forsake you”. Let us be encouraged by these words
